2022 Term 3 Week 2
Dear Parents and Carers
The installation of the new playground started last week and was completed yesterday. The playground drew a great deal of attention from staff and students, and I am sure there are many students keen to try it out! We have further projects planned which will commence in the near future - watch this space! Kinder students were happy to demonstrate the use of the playground to the builder during 'handover'.

In week 1 Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of school participating in themed activities during class, including teachers and students dressing up as a 100 year old.
NAIDOC celebrations were held at St Mary's last week and we were pleased to welcome a number of visitors to our school who assisted by working with students. Many thanks to Mr Hegedus and Mr Skinner for their contributions to this important school event.
Kindergarten 2023 tours and interviews have been completed and I look forward to contacting the families with offers of enrolment in the coming days. Additional enrolments are also being accepted via the online portal. A link is located on our webpage.

Year 1
Last week Year 1 celebrated NAIDOC Week and participated in Storytelling and Art activities. They really enjoyed drawing their own dot artworks and creating their own stories using the Aboriginal symbols. The students found it very interesting learning about what all of the different symbols represent.
Year 2
Year Two have begun learning about Persuasive texts in English. We have spent the past two weeks identifying what a persuasive text is, brainstorming topics we have different opinions on and even having some mini debates in the classroom.
Over the past few days we have loved becoming the ‘teacher’ and examining some samples of student writing to co-construct our Bump it Up Wall. This will help us improve our writing throughout this unit as we can take ownership of our learning and use the Bump it Up Wall to see what we need to do to improve our persuasive writing.
Year 3
Year 3 students worked collaboratively to create this indigenous designed mural for our classroom. Each student was given a section to colour and the finished result is displayed in our classroom.

Information relating to fee assistance due to the recent flooding was shared via our Compass App this week. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Just a reminder that the Kiss and Drop Zone is currently signed as a one minute parking zone. This means that you cannot park your car in the kiss and drop zone for an extended period. The students arrive at Kiss and Drop at 3pm and are supervised in this zone until 3.20pm. Please consider arriving closer to 3pm for collection.
The Kiss and Drop is designed for you to stay in your car while your child enters the car. If your child cannot open the car door and secure their own seatbelt, you need to park your car and walk to the gate to collect your child. The Kiss and Drop Zone does not function effectively and becomes congested if there are any hold ups or delays.
The school does not request the presence of the Grafton Police to manage traffic at the front of the school. However, there is a regular police presence on Turf Street monitoring the safety of the school zone. Please ensure that you adhere to all traffic signs in the area to avoid fines.
Please check out our school Safe Travel webpage that details all the processes for travel to and from school.
Parking in Hoof Street
There are a small number of parking spaces near the Sunrise Shop (corner of Hoof and Turf Streets) for use by their customers. To assist this small business we suggest parking away from the corner.
